Two children died and one remained missing after four boys drowned while bathing in the Chandan River near Singhnaan village under Rajoun police station area in Bihar’s Banka district on Sunday afternoon. Villagers rescued one boy immediately, but the other three were swept away. The incident created panic in the area and drew a large crowd to the riverbank.
The missing and deceased children were identified as Kanhaiya Tanti (15), son of Vijay Tanti; Amarjeet Kumar (15), son of Dilo Tanti; and Rajesh Kumar (14), son of Dblu Tanti. The rescued child was Alok Kumar (14), son of Sinku Tanti. All were residents of Singhnaan village and had entered the river to bathe when they drifted into deep water.
On receiving information, Rajoun police reached the location and called the SDRF team from Bhagalpur. Villagers said the team arrived later in the day, during which time they continued the search themselves. The bodies of Kanhaiya Tanti and Amarjeet Kumar were recovered on Monday morning from near Angari Bridge in Puraini village, Bhagalpur district. The search operation for Rajesh Kumar is still ongoing.
Singhnaan Panchayat Sarpanch Mukesh Kumar Singh stated that the recovery of the bodies was made possible with the help of villagers. He urged the authorities to provide immediate compensation to the victims’ families. Locals have also called for extending all possible assistance to those affected.
